Welcome

Taos County offers a rich cultural heritage, diverse and spectacular geography, year round activities, and numerous art galleries and museums.  The town of Taos is approximately a 40 minute drive from the Flying W Aviator Community

Taos Pueblo

The Taos Pueblo is one of the oldest continuously inhabited communities in the U.S. (estimated built between 1000 and 1450 AD). The Pueblo is both a National Historic Landmark and a UNESCO Heritage site and is open to the public for numerous festivals and tours.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taos_Pueblo

Geography

Numerous spectacular and awe inspiring geographic features surround the area, such as: Rio Grande River and Gorge, Sangre de Cristo Mountains including the highest mountain peak in the state (Mt. Wheeler), high desert plateaus and volcanoes.  


The Rio Grande del Norte National Monument, in which the Flying W is located, was established in 2013 and contains approximately 400 sq. miles, or almost 20% of Taos County.  The monument provides a protected area for outdoor enthusiasts of all types –  skiing, hunting, fishing, logging, hiking, biking, off-road ATV, white-water rafting, and camping.

Due to the incredible and ever changing skies, landscape and wildlife, artists have flocked to Taos for over 100 years. As a result Taos is well known for its numerous museums and high density of art galleries.

Taos has all the amenities of modern life including: many excellent restaurants, year round events and celebrations, supermarkets, hardware stores, regional hospital, and more.  Santa Fe is located about a two hour drive (20 minute flight) from Taos and Albuquerque is approximately three hours drive (35 minute flight).
